Cheryl Braganza: Montreal artist finds her voice

Submitted by Dorothy Lander

Geeta Nadkarni of Radio Canada International interviewed and filmed Montreal artist Cheryl Braganza in her studio as part of the ROOTS project.  Take a look at the 6:25 minute video: http://roots.rcinet.ca/selection?cat=rci_selection

Cheryl begins the video saying that it has taken her a lifetime to find her voice. Pointing to her painting in progress, Cheryl relates the colours in her palette to the emotions she wishes to express — from anger to calm.

In 2008 Cheryl received the Woman of the Year award from the Montreal Council of Women.  As one of our participants on our Whistlestop journey in March 2009, Cheryl introduced us to her art practices as a way of giving voice to immigrant women in Montreal.
